Dammu Telugu Movie Review

First half of the film is nice with a grand interval fight. Second half is okay. The soft climax after excessive killing in pre-climax may water down the expectations of the fans. But it is needed to maintain the consistency the character of hero who believes in non-violence. However, the sudden change of mind of villain doesn’t look believable. Plus points of the film are NTR, rich technical values (music, fights, cinematography & sets) and grand production values. On the flip side, reduction of violence and a better doctoring of the second half would make it a perfect mass entertainer. Dhammu has started off with extraordinary openings and if it clicks with the masses, this film will break first week records.

Director Boyapati Seenu’s new film Dammu has an outdated and clichéd storyline, regressive content, and mindless and excessive violence. The tale is stereotypical and uninteresting and outdated by a couple of decades. It is regressive and the atrocities and the violence makes it difficult to sit through to the end. The whole senseless drama puts one off. Looks like Boyapati Seenu made Dammu exclusively for NTR Jr’s fans. For others it’s an ordeal not worth enduring.

The combination of Boyapati-NTR reflects that this has to be a high voltage treat. The pre-release talk and other promos also indicated the same. However, there is quite a bit of mismatch between what was projected and what was conceived onscreen. Though it was meant to be an action entertainer, since the protagonist is young, the romance track had to be solid and an equally engaging comedy track was required atleast during one half. But both the departments failed.First half of the film runs in routine fashion while interval bang happens with a lengthy dialogue from NTR. Second half is crucial for this film but that didn’t carry expected and required punch. But though the film has style it lacks the substance.

First half is good with exciting interval block but the second half we couldn’t bare sitting on our seats. The over sentiment and artificial dialogues which doesn’t suit NTR are minus points. There are twists which we can expect before they get reveal. There is no doubt that NTR is a great dancer but there are no such extra ordinary dance moves in the film. Interval bang is good but the climax is very boring with prolonged and extended melodrama with message orientation. Boyapati for the first time failed handling a star hero with week screenplay.Even NTR fans may not be fully satisfied with the movie. There are more mass appealing dialogues with political and Vamsam flavor. Too much action sequences will keep the family audience away from the movie. There is no big Dammu in Dammu. The final result of the movie could be just an average.-MM

Dammu is yet another commercial potboiler film with a routine story and age old backdrop.Director could have written a better screenplay to take the film to next level. There are too many ups and downs in the narration. Heroism never gets completely elevated as the story demands such underplay. But from the outlook of the film one would expect a better and powerful output.Boyapati played it safe by taking up a subject that has been beaten to death many a time. He tried to add humor to the narration in first half and it is just okay. There are some really powerful sequences and equally dull moments in the filmDammu is for fans. NTR fans will be pleased with this powerful mass film as they didn’t get to see in such a powerful role in the recent times. Others may like it or may not like due to poor content and old concept.
