X-Men: First Class’ is an intelligent, action-packed prequel that neatly ties into the events and the dynamics of the original movie trilogy. Most importantly, it provides the back-story for the legendary rivalry between Professor X and Magneto.’X-Men: First Class’ is that rare summer blockbuster that’s both smart and incredibly fun. So much fun, in fact, that you even go with the preposterous insinuation that the Cuban Missile Crisis was of an evil mutant’s doing!I’m going with three-and-a-half out of five for ‘X-Men: First Class’. Despite it’s running time of 2 hours and 20 minutes, you will wish there was more!

Most action films may boast of loads of action but go low on story and character growth. Here’s where X-Men: First Class scores. The ka-boom stuff is all there, in heavy doses too, but it comes only when the characters have told their story and expounded their reasons to explode. What’s more, the film may be a fictional superhero story but it beautifully blends history with superpower histrionics. Great action, riveting drama, real dilemmas and interesting characters, X-Men: First Class is fun all the way.

X-Men: First Class is smart and s**y and thankfully, accessible even to the uninitiated. The solid story-telling is enhanced by strong performances, especially by Fassbender, who is at once, furious, fractured and tragic. Fassbender and McAvoy have great chemistry.X-Men: First Class is a nicely done, industrial strength, summer popcorn movie. I strongly recommend that you check it out.

So just how good is X-Men: First Class, then? Clearly one of the finest superhero films of all time, better even than Bryan Singer’s stellar work in the series, and yes — I make this unfair comparison merely because the film I’m about to mention has become the gold standard in modern superhero movies — yes, it is better than The Dark Knight. You’ll see.

The pacing is relentless —X-Men: First Class rarely stops for a breather, and when it does, it offers a couple of cameo appearances from familiar faces that should have X-Men fans cheering. Director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Layer Cake) doles out a truly well-written and plausible origin tale here, together with sumptuous, stylish visuals and a faux historical twist that gives us a comic book version of a Tom Clancy bestseller.X-Men: First Class is an exceptional entry in the series. It is smart, witty and a lot of fun. Watch it on the biggest screen possible.

What’s Good: The racy screenplay; the well-executed action sequences; the engaging drama in the second-half.What’s Bad: The performances could have been better; the love angle in the film doesn’t work.On the whole, X-Men: First Class is an engaging and entertaining fare in spite of a few flaws in the story.

After a close call with franchise death (diagnosis: anemia), the X-Men film series has bounced back to life with its fifth installment, rescued with a straight injection of pop. “X-Men: First Class” is plenty serious, mostly in its ambitions for world box office domination. With its spy-on-spy globetrotting, old-fashioned villains flirty but prematurely swinging minis and fan-boy bits the whole enterprise has an agreeable lightness, no small thing, given its rapidly moving parts
