How many times can you repeat the same joke before it stops being funny? That’s a question Kunal Vijayakar ought to have asked himself before unleashing on us his occasionally-funny-but-largely-silly directorial effort, Fruit & Nut. Despite juvenile jokes like peeing on open electric wires, Fruit & Nut is mercifully not the sort of vulgar comedy we’ve got used to seeing at the cinemas these days. It’s best suited for those who don’t have a problem with silly, childish humour. I’m going with one-and-a-half out of five for director Kunal Vijaykar’s Fruit & Nut. For those expecting anything more, it’s possibly the longest ninety minutes of your life .

Neither fruity nor nutty, this film ends up as a total squish. After an unfruitful watch, you feel completely let down since the film boasts of a star cast that includes most of the contemporary funsters of the entertainment industry. The characters do try and whip up some humour, but they are severely let down by the unfunny script. The dialogues too border on the meaningless and leave you wondering what’s the point really. End result? You want to grab the DVD of that other film on Mumbai’s bungling municipality with its trio of save-Mumbai bumblers who managed to work magic on screen. Jaane Bhi Do nutty Yaaron, there’s no point trekking down milestone alley.

FRUIT & NUT, directed by Kunal Vijaykar, is one of those films that succeed in making you giggle intermittently. But how one wishes the film had a strong story in the first place. This one is a senseless comedy and the sad part is, the absurdities here are not too amusing. On the whole, FRUIT & NUT has some funny moments, that’s it! A film like this holds very limited appeal.
