Star Wars: The Last Jedi does feel overlong, and there are flabby parts here and there. Yet it’s seldom boring because the pace is brisk and Johnson brings a lightness of touch that feels entirely new. The film is ultimately a triumph of inventiveness and unpredictability, and delivers jaw-dropping visual imagery of the kind that this franchise hasn’t seen.I’m going with a big four out of five for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Johnson, whose previous writing/directing credits include smart indies like Brick and Looper, makes the transition to Blockbusterland with the ease of a pro. It’s hardly surprising that he’s been entrusted with creating a new trilogy in the Star Wars universe. The galaxy is safe on his watch.

The original Star Wars was a part of my childhood. So there is an instant love and nostalgia that this franchise induces in me. That opening scrawl gets me each time – my eyes moisten and my hair stands on end. But even if these movies don’t resonate with you in the same way, I recommend that you see The Last Jedi. There is a real power and glory here.

If you’ve watched all the previous parts of the series, you don’t need a reason but if you’re new to this binge watch all the seven parts and watch this one the first thing you’re done with the rest.

The Last Jedi looks great, its visual and sound design assembled with care and judicious taste. Ultimately, though, its ballast lies in the relationship between Rey and Kylo Ren, whose mysterious mind-meld is fleshed out and deepened, its mysterious origins cleared up only slightly. Whereas Driver has the kind of face and physical presence that lends itself to his character’s ambiguity, Ridley isn’t nearly as compelling this time out, perhaps because she spends most of the time being tutored by Luke.

On the whole, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI that aims to please sci-fi fans and of course Star Wars fans across the world could well be termed as one of the new age classics or at least one of the best sequels ever made. However, the lengthy run time of 2 hours 32 minutes might act as a spoiler, but the feeling of grandeur and thrill that one witnesses more than makes up for it.In the end, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is an intergalactic saga that is definitely a must watch. Being the only major release of the week and given the huge popularity of the franchise, the film should well at the Indian box office.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a rewarding experience for anyone who has stuck with this venerable series through thick and thin. But for the uninitiated, it could prove to be just as enjoyable as being held in a Force Choke for two-and-a-half-hours.

All the technical components come together seamlessly as well. The score, editing, effects, sound design, and cinematography are well-balanced and high caliber. With some absolutely gorgeous moments that will become imprinted in every fan’s mind, ‘The Last Jedi’ is everything a Star Wars film should be, and so much more. Johnson weaves an emotionally rewarding tale while balancing all the essential sci-fi action expected, but manages to give ‘The Last Jedi’ its own heart and voice.

Rian Johnson’s strategy for The Last Jedi was simple: identify everything that’s great about the previous Star Wars films, use those things sparely as Easter eggs and not main plot threads, and craft a brand new storyline that goes in a bold and adventurous direction full of wonder, thrills and discovery. It makes The Last Jedi the most enjoyable blockbuster of the year. The best way to enjoy The Last Jedi is to go in without knowing absolutely any plot details, but I’ll present you a spoiler free description.
