But Machine reveals that the brothers – there’s also a third, Hussain A Burmawalla who edits these films – have wholly lost their mojo. This isn’t just a bad film. It’s incoherent, ridiculous and just flat-out nutty. Nothing onscreen makes any sense – least of all the hero – Mustafa Burmawalla who plays Ransh, the rich, race-car driving hero. Yes, Machine is a launch vehicle for a son. Mustafa tries very hard. But his acting skills are so severely limited and this narrative is so nonsensical, that he makes zero impact.

The mind boggles at the thought of movies like these, that actually get written (?), shot, publicized and manage to hit the theaters. Does no one with an ounce of objectivity intervene at any point? Anyway, here we are, and here it is. This machine has been put together without any manual and starts falling apart as soon as it is turned on.

They’ve cherry-picked from amongst their own hits to cobble together Machine: the biggest chunks are recognizably from Baazigar, crossed with Soldier, and Race. Machine is the kind of film the director-duo would have got away in the 90s. Or maybe not. Even the squelchiest of plots need some acting chops and charisma: none of the young people, including the debutant Burmawla, is in possession of these crucial ingredients that makes a star.

. This machine is neither mean nor lean. The racket that it makes is deafening and brain-numbing. The ideas that it rolls out consistently fly in the face of logic and common sense. Machine is an unmitigated disaster. Even if you were to walk in with zero expectation, the two-and-a-half-hour Machine would still be a massive letdown. It’s a non-starter best left alone.

It’s really tough to ignore amateurish CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) and mind-numbing, innuendoes -laden banters in a 148- minute film. Kiara Advani, who looked confident in MS Dhoni biopic, is as clueless as anybody else in the film, but Mustafa takes the cake. It’s going to hit him hard. Abbas-Mustan disappoints like never before. Even machines will find it hard to enjoy Machine.

The proceedings of the film’s first half is slow as it is entirely devoted to the typical routine boy-meets-girl romance, which is followed by their marriage. The ‘actual’ story of the film begins from the point of interval. As the film proceeds, one just cannot help but draw comparisons between MACHINE and Abbas-Mustan’s earlier film BAAZIGAR. The film’s second half sees unexpected twists and turns, which ‘accelerates’ the pace of the film. Because of the fact that the film’s climax is extremely long-drawn, it fails to touch the hearts. On the whole, MACHINE is strictly an ordinary fare. Lack of emotional connect coupled with a weak script, unknown faces and mediocre music will play spoilsport for the film at the Box-Office.

Everything except the points mentioned in ‘What’s hot’. Only after you watch Machine you will realise the beauty of the word “why?”. So many emotions in three letters.”Why” is the only word that could possibly contain whatever you see on screen.I sit near the TV team of Bollywoodlife and hence have to forcibly watch TV shows like Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai etc. I have to say, these daily soaps have shown more logic at times than the combined logic that is there in Machine

Motwane and Rao form a lethal team that keep us hooked for 102 minutes, quite easily. Trapped is unique because it’s unlike any other one-room drama. It remains a personal story, more like a leaf out of Shaurya’s life than a cinematic celebration of a survivor. Trapped is a defining film for Motwane who has become braver in using small spaces and silence. It’s the beginning of a style that we must see in his next films. No interval release is going to make you understand Trapped better.
