“PK” has opened to a huge start at metro multiplexes. opening at 90% in Delhi and Mumbai. and at 70% across all India multiplexes.
Delhi and Mumbai multiplexes even added capacity and had shows opening as early as 8:30 for Pk even those were full.
This is despite opening on a non holiday.
Pk looks likely to be only the second film to gross more than 30 crores on a non holiday opening after Dhoom 3 which was again an aamir khan movie.
Single screens and tier 3 cities are not as good as Dhoom 3 but are still good.
UP and Gujarat have opened slow but are still decent.
Multiplexes with higher ticket prices and higher openings will cover for lower performances from single screens and a bumper day 1 is now expected for PK.
While it may be possible PK finishes lower than Happy New Year’s opening day PK is expected to be a long run movie and is expected to create new records in the long run since the trade word of mouth is very good for the movie.
PK is the first Indian movie to be monitored by rentrak and box office figures will be shared wide via rentrak.
