Balupu Telugu Movie Review
Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Karthik Pasupulate Site:Times Of India(TOI)
The climax has some outlandish jumping japang moments also rolled in. The filmmakers sure got all the bases covered on the “entertainment value” front. The movie does manage to dish out plenty of entertainment, even if it is of the lame and slapstick variety. You wouldn’t go to a Ravi Teja movie expecting too much more. The movie manages to live up to the expectations, which seem to have slipped considerably after a spate of the actors recent movies which were well below par.

First half of the film is entertaining. Second half has story, mass elements and emotions. The pre-climax and climax episodes are entertaining. Ravi Teja whose previous hit was released in January 2011 didn’t find success at box office despite having seven films in a span of 2 and half years. Balupu will provide oxygen to his career. Balupu has all ingredients (with a dominating portion of entertainment) to become a decent hit. You can watch it!!.

Balupu like most mainstream commercial cinema has the same formula of action, romance, comedy and the mandatory songs, re-churned. The first half of the film is somewhat entertaining with Brahmanandam and Shruti’s antics. In the second half the film rewinds to a flashback which establishes who they are. Since the formula the director uses is time tested, there isn’t much he can do except some small variations in characterisation or orchestration of action sequences and songs. The second half drags and is largely predictable. On the whole, Balupu is the regular pot-boiler offering nothing new.

The film has nothing new to offer and content wise it is not that great. But he was careful to do the packaging in the right manner and keep the energy flow constant without any dip. The film takes off on a usual note and has the usual elements of humor, songs, action and some romance. The interval bang reveals the plot and gives the required twist. The second half continues with the same momentum and maintains the entertainment factor as well. On the flip side, the film doesn’t have anything unexpected or curious.Given the fact that there are not many big releases around will benefit the collections. Overall, this is a film which can be watched for its time pass entertainment.

Balupu is a neat entertainer film with lots of funny scenes. Director has used many contemporary things to evoke humor. There is not much rib tickling stuff, but the film doesn’t show anything serious and that is where it works. First half of the film finishes off in a flash with good comedy scenes between Raviteja and Brahmanandam. There is a nice twist at the interval and then comes the flashback. This is neither convincing nor entertaining. The film drags a bit at this point but the director has made sure that there is enough fun in the climax sequence, courtesy Jumping Jhapak and Iddarammayilatho reference.

What Is Good: Ravi Teja energetic performance, Brahmi comedy, Shruthi Hassan glamour. What Is Bad: Routine story, Not so griping screenplay especially in second half, Many characters are wasted, Songs, Unimpressive flashback episode, Boring Scenes: Second half, Climax, Songs. Watch It Or Not?: Not a complete ACTION ENTERTAINER, but watchable once for Ravi Teja-Brahmi comedy

Balupu is a perfect example for that. Heroism does not get elevated with rhyming dialogues like “mokkanu penchuko needanisthundhi..kukkanu penchuko vishwasanga vuntundhi”. There are many dialogues like this. Raviteja hasn’t changed even one percent. Balupu is very pleasing taking wise. It’s picturised richly making it a visual feast. But what’s the use? Director can copy old stories. But instead of copying Raviteja’s past flop movies, Gopichand Malineni should have at least copied from his hit movies.
