Veere Di Wedding channels everything from Bridesmaids to Sex and the City, but the script (by Mehul Suri and Nidhi Mehra) never lifts off the ground. And it’s not hard to see why. The film’s notions of feminism feel misguided. Its idea of women cutting loose is basically women acting like badly behaved men. So the ladies here swear like sailors, drop f-bombs and coarse Hindi gaalis. They talk freely about sex and orgasms, and drink till they pass out and wake up in strangers’ beds. None of it would’ve been a problem if it didn’t feel so labored. Or frankly if the film delivered even a smidgeon of fun. But Veere Di Wedding isn’t fun. Actually it’s the opposite of fun – it’s a slog.

Get ready to be SURPRISED... This film swims against the tide... Defies stereotype... Dares to be different... Truly hatke stuff... Not for the conservative, definitely... Tremendous SHOCK-VALUE. VeereDiWedding is *not* #DilChahtaHai meets #PyaarKaPunchnama... This one is padded with adult humour and dialogue/one-liners that will bring a smile and startle you, both... This Girl Gang is truly BINDAAS... VeereDiWedding is *not* #DilChahtaHai meets #PyaarKaPunchnama... On the whole, Veere Di Wedding has taken a flying start and it will keep everyone smiling despite the fact that a section of the audience will be critical of the content. In commercial terms, this one will turn out to be a richly rewarding proposal.

Friends are the new family. Weddings are now as much about parents giving away the bride as they are about friends entrusting her to a man they approve of. Veere Di Wedding gets this fantastic bond right, and gives us four dramatically different kinds of women with agency and spirit. Nobody stands in the way of their decisions. Some girls will always choose to argue, just as some mothers will always choose to harangue. We haven't seen these ladies on screen before, and they will serve as an awakening. India could do with an alarm call. Sometimes we need a movie to tell us what an orgasm means.

Net net, Veere Di Wedding is a fun ride, which squeezes past its creaky tropes and partial squelchiness by some smart casting choices, and perky performances. And lines which connect. ‘Shaadi toh foundation hai jhagde ki’, says a character, and I found myself chuckling. As did many people around me.

There's no real rebellion, just a consuming love for fashion and faux feminism where every zinger flying out of their mouth sounds like something you've heard on a sitcom or favourited on your Pinterest wall. For a while though, the unapologetic tone of its 'Baahar se sati andar se slutty' shallowness actually works.

The four leading ladies break the proverbial glass ceiling with their sexy stilettos. We’ve rarely seen women on screen who are so uninhibited about their life, sexuality and desires. In that respect, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ is a brave effort indeed. This film will find an appeal with the younger generations who can relate to the discussions and dilemmas of these veeres.

Finally, after 105 years, mainstream Bollywood has woken up to its women, to tell their story from their perspective but unfortunately, it’s a story that has the signature gloss of an Ekta Kapoor TV show and the depth of a teacup.Besides these very few and very far in between moments, Veere Di Wedding looks exactly like a Balaji production, all gloss and glamour and hardly any soul

Veere Di Wedding is more than a chick flick for sure despite the fact that the antics of the four friends and their sartorial choices (come on it's a Sonam Kapoor film after all) is what keeps us entertained throughout. But there is enough gravitas wherever required and all in all you come out feeling as if you've got a peek into each of their respective lives with all its complexities. Veere perfectly balances out the laugh-out-moments with the real life issues each of the characters are grappling with. Nowhere does it sag or go over the top with the emotions.

The story and the twists aren’t life altering or shocking, but the ladies and their kinship is organic enough to be believable. While the first half moves at a quick pace, the dramatic twists in the second half seemed a bit forced. But director Ghosh re-gains control towards the climax and ties it up well. While this film isn’t going to make you any wiser in love or life, Veere Di Wedding will go down as an engaging film that doesn’t hurt the eye.

  5. This Movie is based on Women liberalization & their freedom that they can be lusty and pervert for men too just like men is lusty for women, this is just a reflection of today's thinking of woman's mind that if men can think & talk dirty women are no longer behind ,after all its just a perception , actually there is no man & woman as 99% body is same just a skin out makes man & inside makes woman other than that physically not much difference even the cravings man has towards woman ,woman has also but just she was shy before due to culture but now she has came out of her hesitation & is now talking freely & openly which male based society needs more guts to accept ,the only thing is that if this trend continue marriage will be a thing of past & man & woman will only go to each other to fulfill their desires & after filling that they will say good bye to each other just like animals do and after all human is also an animal & his deep instincts are just like an animal for ex sleep, hunger, fear & sex both are common in humans & animals ,but the thing is animals don't control like humans but if human tries to control this things till a certain level than after a limit they become like an animal for ex: if you don't give food to somebody for 2 days he will attack on somebody for food even after 3 day of hunger,so the advice to youth is don't suppress your desires fulfill with a willing or ready adult woman so it might stop you from doing wrong things as the moment you stop your desires it affects your brain & you might do something wrong just like in this movie all woman were sexually frustrated & disappointed fcks so that's why there doing all these bullshit but if they would have found an healthy man at the time of their needs they would not have gone so weird,so the message is don't stop your desires after that no message only massage, lol

  8. Movie Review | Veere Di Wedding | Rating 3/5 | No Spoilers

There are classic thought provocative films with strong messages.. there are trash masala films offering little entertainment and then there are films like this, which are "just refreshing". This film made me take off my critic hat and just enjoy the camaraderie of 4 carefree girls opening their hearts out to each other. In one sentence, if I have to say the theme of film then it would be "Yaaran Naal Baharan" (meaning having fun with friends).

This film has been criticized for portraying feminism in wrong way. Did producers claim that this is a film on feminism? They just want to have fun and people are force fitting feminism on it! People also criticized the film for girls freely talking about sex and using the cuss words. How do you talk to your chuddy buddies? Namaste, aap kaise hain. Aaj mausam to bada khushnuma hai ji. Is it? I felt it absolutely normal and real the way girls were chatting and enjoying life.

First of the half film is absolute fun. Full marks to director and casting director for getting the cast right. Together all 4 actresses were gelling well, pulling each others' leg and sharing uninhibited heartfelt laughter. There wasn't any plot in particular but a frame which looked good. Problem happened in second half when director tried to move story forward to bring it a conclusive end with all the emotions and fights and tears. This is where film fell apart and became a typical Bollywood flick with hackneyed plot. It is a tough task to complete the whole film without bringing emotional melodrama but that's what differentiates an average film from great (e.g. Chupke Chupke, Golmaal, Angoor).

Kareena Kapoor wasn't great and most of her scenes looked forced. For some reason, she was popping her eyes so much that I was worried they will pop out and roll on the floor. Sumeet Vyas was cooool and almost reprises his role from Permanent Roommates. Sonam Kapoor had to look dumb, for which she didn't require much effort. Swara Bhaskar (who is a great actress) for a change looked gorgeous but not impressive. Her focus seemed to be on oozing oomph than acting skills in this film. Shikha Talsania was the dark horse and steals the thunder. She was very natural and effortless in her acting. Manoj Pahwa and Ayesha Raza as Sumeet Vyas parents were fun to watch.

Music of the film was average and only melodious song is Veere. Despite all its flaws, as I said film is definitely refreshing. Go and watch it with your pals. It would definitely, make you go nostalgic and remind you of your school/college mates who know you inside out. It might sound absurd but just walk out of theater in interval and you'll leave the film on a high.

PS - I haven't seen "Sex and the City" so can't comment on it being an alleged rip off. Had there been any similarities to any Bollywood film, I would have known
