PK sticks faithfully to Hirani's well-oiled formula, and yet there is no question that it's a courageous film. Packed with sharp dialogue and genuinely funny moments that offset the lack of subtlety, it is easily one of the year's better films. I'm going with three-and-a-half out of five for PK; the director's best since Lage Raho Munnabhai.

PK features brave scenes - money extracted at temples, coconuts offered in confusion at a church, god-men doling out tortuous advice - and strong lines, including a Muslim girl bravely asserting, "Itna chota nahin ho sakta hamara khuda, ki use hamare school jaane pe aitraaz ho." Capturing faith whipped into hate, PK's sterling message, directed sensitively, stands out. Its amusing insights and bold message make PK hit home. Appreciate its truths - which aren't so alien after all.

PK is no satire -- it's a bit too toothless for that -- but it is a rollicking mainstream entertainer with ambition to evoke some introspection, one with compelling moments and some genuine surprises. Including a humdinger of a last scene.Make one more, Mr Hirani, make a sequel and take us to the planet of the naked. (We promise not to stare that hard.)

On the whole, PK is an outstanding entertainer with a strong message relevant to all human beings. It will easily prove to be one of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters, probably, the biggest also. It has all chances to emerge as the first film to cross the Rs. 300-crore mark.

Beneath its vibrant bouts of humour, PK mocks at the societal arrangement we have grown apathetic to.When PK works, it does with great merit, spunk and surprise. When it does not, it meanders, sermonises and guilt trips exactly in the tone of the one it reproaches.

Bollywood enthusiasts who value their intelligence - and their hard-earned money - finally have reason to rejoice. PK is here. Rajkumar Hirani's first film in five years is a warm, funny and piercingly provocative satire that should blow the blues away.

PK is a fun film with proper dose of ‘gyaan’. It’s a film that shouldn’t be missed and it’s brave because it attempts to create a better world. Another winner from Rajkumar Hirani. It would be hard to stop it from owning the box-office as well. And yes, don’t leave the theatre till the credit rolls. There is a surprise for you.

Though the storytelling is seamless, PK does seem to lack the punch that his earlier films had. Though the screenplay of the film is comprehensive and engrossing, with humorous situations and entertaining dialogues, the narrative does get slow at a certain points. PK however hits the right notes and entertains. On the whole, Aamir Khan's PK is a solid entertainer that will surely entertain the masses and classes alike. An outstanding film. Go for it.

That lack of guile leads us to believe in PK, and makes the film, up till the seamless first half, a terrific watch. Post interval, it slumps. The focus, which till then is on a character who intrigues us while interesting things are happening to him, gets diluted by a wholly superfluous romance , and a face-off between the guy awash in other-worldly goodness who asks all the right questions and the bad godman who has all the wrong answers.

PK, somehow doesn’t quite measure up to their own standards. It falls short on many levels. If you’re looking for a film in the league of the Munnabhais and 3 Idiots, PK is not even close. But it’s still a must-see for many reasons, and by that, I mean the protagonists.

PK is a rare film, they do not make them like that anymore. This one is a delight for all its silly, comic, serious and witty nature all rolled into one. There is little to disagree with in this film and certainly if you want to sit, laugh and still go home thinking and reviewing some of your daily actions. Watch it for all its novel ideas and the innocence with which PK conveys them.

`PK` has enough substance to keep you hooked to your seats for the entire run time. If you find your attention wavering in the first half, the second half of the movie will put your doubts to rest. The story only gets interesting and picks up pace towards the end.

If I had not seen Oh My God (2012) then PK would be a pleasant surprise but that doesn't take away anything from this masterpiece. All the credit for this goes to the captain of the ship, the genius filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani who has raised the bar once again. PK is an absolute must watch film and watch it before your friends tell you all the surprise elements in detail.

This movie deserves at least 4.5/5

    5. PK is hilarious and emotional in equal measure. Raju hirani has proved once again that he is the best . Waiting for five years has paid rich dividend as Rju Hirani and Aamir Khan has delivered once again a superb movie. I feel sorry for reviewers like shubra Gupta , Sarita Tanwar, , Surabhi Redkar who do not have any respect for such a great film penned beautifully bu Raju Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. Even I was not expecting this ((3.5/5) from Rajeev Masand. Any way we enjoyed this movie and would like to watch this movie again for its hilarious dialogues. KUSUM

  12. Also known as Mr. Perfect of Hindi film industry, Aamir Khan is well known for his unconventional choice of films. His voice on social issues with programs, like ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’, have already catered the masses. Not to forget his performance in ‘3Idiots’, which was a big satire on the Indian education system. Aamir and Rajkumar Hirani team up yet again for their new venture ‘PK’, which has been in the news for a while because of the controversial nude poster of the star.

PK is the story of an astronaut (Aamir Khan), who happens to come from some other planet. As soon as he arrives on Earth, his locket, which was the only source of contacting his spaceship, gets stolen. In the quest of finding his stolen locket, PK discovers a variety of new things on earth which seem quite mysterious to him. He constantly asks questions about god, religion and caste challenging the norms and beliefs of the society. During this PK meets, Jaggu (Anushka Sharma), a news reporter, who promises to get back his locket.

Not revealing much about the story, PK happens to be a satire on the hoax beliefs about God and their Godmen, much like Oh My God. Not only this, PK also borrows a lot of instances from Oh My God. Inspite of this, PK tries its best to entertain the audiences. Aamir’s childlike curiosity and his Bhojpuri accent are sure to leave you spell bound. The scenes are well crafted and beautifully executed. You’re sure to have a good laugh at some of them. Though, PK’s soundtrack remains to be a bit on the lower side which is a big negative point.

Aamir Khan, yet again, shows his versatility as an actor. Surely, he has put in a lot of efforts to portray that role. Beware Shahid Kapoor! You have a real competitor for ‘best actor’ this year. Anushka Sharma is good enough to support Aamir, she does not disappoint either. Sushant Singh Rajput, in an extended cameo, is impressive. Saurabh Shukla is excellent. Though I was disappointed to not see Boman Irani in a major role, now that’s a total waste of talent.

PK, though borrows from Oh My God, entertains you in most of the parts. It is a typical Raju Hirani film with a social message. Go watch it with your family, have a good laugh and come back. And for all you ladies out there, PK has a special surprise for you in the end. ;)

    Rating- 3/5

Watched it. It has lot of Humorous situations and entertaining dialogues. Sometime you may feel that film is little bit slow, BUT still it’s a MUST WATCH for Aamir, Abhijat Joshi and Rajkumar Hirani. Presence of Ranbir Kapoor may even surprise you at the end. Don't compare it to “OhMyGod”.
“Wrong number hai“ , “Kaun Hindu, kaun musalman. Kahan hai thappa dikhao? ” This dialogue from PK explains the film's real concern.Logical and Very meaningful message conveyed through wit and humor.

  14. PK is a very good movie. Came back watching right now. Hats off to Raju Hirani for giving us a great entertaining-thought provoking-and out-of-the box movie. This is one of Aamir's best performance and will be loved by all. He indeed stays to his statement about method acting. Anushka is surprise package. Highly impressive. Among the rest, I wish if Sushant had more role. Songs and Background music is suitable and only one song- Chaar Kadam stands out. Cinematography is excellent and the production values are superb. The writing is the USP. The plot is definitely same of OMG but it is superbly executed. Final word is that- It's a different movie and must-watch! [3.5/5]

  18. Lets face it, when we hear Rajkumar Hirani has a film releasing, how can one not be excited. The man with the midas touch comes with arguably his most challenging film to date, especially with the burden of the expectations. What happens?
He actually delivers a fine film, that might not be his best, but yet has so much damn soul. Everytime. How?

I'm not going to give out anything on the film. Fact is that I genuinely went in clueless, other than knowing he is an alien & I came out so happy that I dont feel I should ruin anyone else's experience.

I will only highlight a few points:
    1. The world is lovely and magical.
    2. The soulful melodies work perfectly with the film.
    3. The first half is absolutely cracking. Just blows you away
    4. Second half is a bit of a let down but works in the larger scheme of things.
    5. Climax could have been way better
    6. Anushka Sharma is a bit irritating.
    7. Aamir Khan. Good lord, it is phenomenal what he does. Salute!

Hirani does what he does best, send out a social message, sandwiched between laughter & emotions and delivers the concoction with dollops of soul. Run to the cinemas guys, run!

  19. PK is a delightful, meaningful, out of the box Satire on Self styled Godmen which not only entertains you to the core but also awakens your logical senses regarding some prevalent social issues making it a must watch for cine-lovers. Director, RajKumar Hirani made us wait for five years before his PK hit theaters but it is worth the wait as he has crafted a masterpiece which is in a league of its own. It is a lavishly mounted, big budget production by Vidhu Vinod Chopra & RajKumar Hirani Films and Hirani has ensured that every single penny has been well spent whilst filming the movie as the movie is flawless with respect to all departments of film making apart from its soundtrack which is just about average. There are myriad number of emotions on display in PK as it makes you laugh, weep, smile, think and even self introspect. Though, the theme of the movie has an uncanny resemblance to Akshay Kumar starrer Oh My God as the story of this movie also revolves around existence of God but the screenplay of the movie makes it an entirely different cinematic experience than the previous movie. The film in an entertaining way revolves around the question as to Who or What is God ? The movie makes us sit and think about what actually religion means and how some selfish people for their own vested interests have been playing games dividing people on the basis of religion. It also hits out at self styled Godmen who have been fooling people on the name of God and religion to make monetary gains. How, they have created 'Darr' of Bhagwaan in the minds of people and are capitalizing on it. Although, Hirani has made a movie on a sensitive subject but he has wonderfully layered the plot, never crossing the line so as to hurt the sentiments of deeply religious people in the world. He has cleverly concocted the tale from the eyes of an alien who lands on this earth and how he deals with humans around him. This is one movie which is not only a fulttoo Paisa wasool fare but also makes you put your thinking caps on. Hats off to Hirani as he has crafted this sensitive subject in a playful way without sounding preachy at all. Although, PK is not a out an out comedy, but still it leaves no stone unturned in entertaining you.

  20. STORY & SCREENPLAY :: The story as well as screenplay of the movie has been co-penned by RajKumar Hirani & Abhijat Joshi and what a fantastic tale they have concocted. Not only is the storyline of the movie interesting but it also has several layers attached to it which keep on unfolding as the storyline progresses. As I have mentioned earlier that the movie has uncanny resemblance to Oh My God as both the movies have dealt with the subject about existence of God and self styled Godmen but the writers here have played a safe masterstroke by letting the drama unfold through the eyes of an alien. Where as in OMG, Almighty himself turns up on earth, here it is left to an alien to question the credibility of Godmen and how they are fleecing people. The movie raises several questions and interesting facts which have been presented in a humorous way like, Is it in our hands to be born into a particular religion or country ? PK asks the same question to a Godman and asks him to prove it by showing a birthmark that God puts on every kid for letting him born in a particular religion. He challenges the belief of people in Godmen by asking that How can God grant wishes of people only through Godmen and not directly himself. The screenplay is a perfect blend of both mockery and sarcasm. The film starts off with PK (Aamir Khan), an alien, landing on earth, in the desert of Rajasthan, to study about human begins and life on earth. Arriving stark naked on a earth, PK has a rough start on the planet when his tracking remote, that helps him send signals back to his spaceship, gets stolen. He now has to find the remote to contact his spaceship and till then survive on earth on his own. Unaware of human mannerisms, language or life in general on earth, PK finds it difficult to adjust. However, fate brings him in touch with Bhairav Singh (Sanjay Dutt) who becomes his dear friend and helps him with life on earth. But destiny takes PK to Delhi. From here on starts a whirlwind story of a stranger in the unknown city of Delhi asking questions that despite their innocence hold a valuable and deep meaning. On the other side is Jagat Janani alias Jaggu ( Anushka Sharma ) who while studying journalism in Belgium falls in love with Sarfaraz ( Sushant Singh Rajput ) who is from Pakistan and they plan to get married. Due to certain misunderstanding, their marriage gets shelved and she flies back to Delhi and starts working in a news channel. Here she meets PK, who has his own way of seeing the world, his own signature styling sense and she finds him distributing pamphlets of Gumshuda ki talaash having picture of God on it. She immediately senses that she can find a story for her channel in him and asks him about his story. After listening to his story, she is bewildered and decides to help him. Aided on by Jagat Janani who teams up with him on this journey, PK challenges some of the oldest rituals of religion that are ruling life of people on earth. I won't like to reveal the rest so that you can go and enjoy PK on big screen.

  21. STARCAST :: Kudos to casting director Mukesh Chhabra for choosing the apt starcast of this movie as per their characters. Almost, all the characters fit in to the shoes of their characters as if they were tailor made Ooops Cobbler made for them. Aamir Khan as PK is gonna bowl you over with his antics on-screen. He is simply flawless. He is such a methodical actor that whenever you watch him portraying a character on-screen, it becomes difficult for you to distinguish him from his character as he delves deep into the skin of his character. I have read that he preferred to chew close to almost 10,000 paans whilst filming for this movie instead of coloring his lips to give his paan chewing character an authentic look. His expressions, body language, walking style & mannerisms in this movie are quite different from what we have seen him portray in his earlier movies. Anushka Sharma, has appeared on-screen after a long hiatus but she has nailed her character of Jagat Janani / Jaggu to utmost perfection. I mean, its not an easy task to stand in front of Aamir but she has stood her ground firmly. She has not only looked ravishing, pretty but has also acted well as per the needs of her character. Sushant Singh Rajput who has proved his mettle as an actor in his last couple of flicks further gets a chance to consolidate his stature as an actor by playing an extended cameo in this movie. He is also one of those natural characters who portrays his character with ease. He has looked real suave in this movie & I am sure his female fan following is gonna increase after this movie. Sanjay Dutt as Bhairon Singh is pitch perfect. His timing in this movie is impeccable and has given a delightful performance. Same goes for Boman Irani who amuses you to your wits end. I feel, Sanjay & Boman share a great chemistry with Hirani as he is always able to extract the best performances from both of them. Not to forget, Saurabh Shukla who has portrayed his character of Self styled Godman in an enthralling manner.

TECHNICAL FINESSE :: The soundtrack for the movie which has been composed by Shantanu Moitra along with Atul & Ajay Gogavale is quite average. You enjoy the songs while you are watching the movie but none of them stays with you, once you exit the cinema hall. The background music has been composed by Sanjay Wanderkar along with Atul Raninga. They have done a descent job as their music provides further impetus to the on-screen visuals. The Cinematographer of the movie is C.K.Muraleedharan who has done a fantastic job behind the lens. His cinematography is plush and passionate and yet the film's visuals never topples over into the kingdom of Garish. And what visuals as he has made the antics of PK, an occasion for optical enhancement. The movie has been edited by RajKumar Hirani who has neatly packaged the whole movie in run-time of 153 minutes. His editing is crisp, taut and doesn't even give you a chance to go out for a loo break. As a director, RajKumar Hirani has hit the bulls eye once again and proved that he knows the pulse of the audience as he is able to woo you into the movie right from the first to the last frame. No wonders, why he is considered as one of the finest directors of Indian Film Industry today. He is a master storyteller who always packages some meaningful social messages along with entertainment and that too without sounding preachy in all his movies which is a rare trait to be found in todays' directors. How I wish, If RajKumar Hirani could make movies more frequently and audience could have the privilege of watching them.

  22. PK is an exceptional movie. It has a story with a believable fairy tale premise that goes forward and becomes a philosophical one on God and the oneness of all religions with no sign of being preachy. It has humour, romance, affection, heart-warming moments, goose bump inducing scenes and a logic that you cannot fault. It has an idea going viral and the common man becoming an activist. In short a Rajkumar Hirani classic. And like the Munnabhai movies and 3 Idiots these go right into your DVD collection to be watched multiple times. He can put a point across gently and humourously and that is a rare gift indeed.

PK is an alien from another planet whose remote device which can take him back home gets stolen the moment he arrives on Earth His efforts to find it take him on a journey where he makes friends, learns about God and the hypocrisy of religion and also fall in love with a TV reporter Jaggu who helps him in his quest.

The start cast excels. Amir as PK sports a Bhojpuri accent and random clothes. He has ears and eyes that pop out and yet he manages to show emotion on that exaggerated face. Anoushka is bubbly yet vulnerable though her mouth look like a goldfish. But she is in step with Amir and that’s what matters. Saurabh Shukla’s Godman is superbly underplayed. Sushant Singh is cute; Boman is Boman and Parikshit Sahni as Jaggu’s dad is sweet. Sanjay Dutt as the Rajasthani man who first befriends PK stands out. I would have loved to see more of him in the movie.

I would have just wished for a bit more information on the planet that the alien comes from. We know they don’t wear clothes there and mind read but apart from that we don’t know much. Do they have families? are they as emotional? What do they eat? Some more information would have fleshed out the alien more but that is a minor quibble.

The songs are melodious, the dances sweet and simple, the humour spot on and the message of the movie seeps into you gently yet so strongly that the audience was wildly clapping at all the right spots.

A review for a good movie always runs the danger of being too gushy and mushy in it’s praise. I’ll cut the hyperbole. Just know it’s a wonderful movie and that you have to see it. Must take kids.

  26. PK:
Oh, My God! Year’s most entertaining Film! [5/5]

You can’t question religion. You can’t ask for logical explanations when it comes to one’s faith. We are not supposed to do that. We are not taught to do that. You have to be either an alien or an escapee from the nearest mental asylum. PK [played by the calculative risk-taker & a game-changer in many cases Aamir Khan] is one such rare genus. His level of indulgence with our worldly Gods is absolutely ‘out of this world’. His child-like innocence can bombard questions of all kind without giving you much time to think and react. He can also make you thunderstruck with his logical demonstrations about things you never bothered or rather apprehended to ask about. No doubt, he looks like a distant and conscientiously more intuitive cousin to Fungshuk Wangdu of 3 IDIOTS.

‘PK’ is another gem of Rajkumar Hirani’s school of film-making where success can also be formulated by assimilating an unfussy entertainment of dramatic but simple nature & a ‘never gets preachy’ social message weaved in good humor and honest emotions. So when PK- the untainted innocent soul discovers people buying goods of their needs simply by exchanging a piece of paper with an old man’s picture [our very own ‘father of the nation] printed on it, he starts collecting every single poster & newspaper-cutting carrying his image. Next, we are made realize how we only respect the ‘financial’ worth and not the ‘moral’ values the man lived his life for.

‘PK’ also dares to question your blind-faith on forged Godmen from all religions. It’s high time we turn to humanity as our primary religious conviction rather than wasting our hard-money and the gifted wisdom to differentiate right from wrong on someone else’s phony tactics. As PK says in the film, the God who created us is very different from the ones we created. And the prayers we make through these age-old practices are nothing more than a ‘wrong number’ call.

The biggest strength of ‘PK’ is that it talks less and speaks more. There is hardly a scene where you don’t get thrashed by one or other social issues or expected human behavioral flaws in us; in a very subtle, explicable, logical and entertaining manner. The Bhojpuri texture to the lingo adds to it fervently and freely. It is one of the most sugary languages spoken across country; still very misinterpreted and wrongly portrayed and performed for Bollywood films. ‘PK’ also doesn’t do it flawlessly but certainly the respect is there. For a change, I am not offended this time!

Hirani and Abhijat Joshi’s taut and an almost flawless screenplay gives you ample hilarious as well as heartwarming moments. Anushka Sharma impresses with her sparkling presence very well translated into a lovely & lively character on screen. Saurabh Shukla and Boman Irani are efficiently likeable. Sushant Singh Rajput is charming and plays it cool, though is only for a shorter role. And who wouldn’t agree? The leading man leads like no one does better. Aamir is known to reinvent his acting abilities as well as the commercial cinema in India. This one takes his efforts to the next level. He gives us a multicolored paan-chewing character you will take home immediately.

And if could give you more about the film, I would be writing it hours in row. There is so much to cheer-so much to cherish; you wouldn’t mind it going twice in its first week. I am ready for the evening show. Till then; my only reaction to the film is if Bollywood is meant to follow the latest formula for recreating similar box-office success, are we going to see many more ‘PK’s in coming years? I am sure, the answer is negative. PK is outstanding! PK doesn’t come to us too often! Go; get a slice of it…NOW! [5/5]

You got carried away like all critics . PK is very lazy & cartoon film in front of OMG. 2nd half is totally week & conventional , 4.5 to Interstellar & 5 to PK ? LOL !

  54. rkh going into predictablity mode , you watch all his movies munna bhai series 3 idiots or pk they sermonise alot. delving into serious matter every time and giving freakish solutions is the sort of dj vu now one experience with rkh movies. a sort of manmohan desai of 1970 .. we laugh at his movies now but they provided the same feel good moments as rkh movies does now. as far as entertainment quotient is concerned they rate very high, but cant put it in classics .... same applies with aamir khan people think him as a thinking actor but watch any of his recent blockbuster from ghazani, dhoom-3, or even pk these movies will be ridiculed some years after.. he puts unnecessary seriousness to frivolous subjects (exception to tare zameen and 3 idiots )
