Maleficent  English Movie Review

Angelina Jolie is the slinky embodiment of evil. But this is a film determined to redeem the misunderstood villainess rather than condemn her. When the lights come back on in the end, it's unlikely that much will stay with you, apart from Jolie's scorching presence. She deserved better, and so did we. I'm going with two-and-a-half out of five for Maleficent.

Why do bad people become bad? That’s the question Disney’s approximately $175 million dollar film Maleficent attempts to answer. Maleficent is a reworking of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. In this version, Maleficent is a beautiful, kind and brave fairy who becomes horribly twisted after she is betrayed in love. I wish some of that had rubbed off on the writing. I’m going with two and a half stars.

Maleficent is pretty much Angelina Jolie's vehicle all the way, because looking at how she fits this role down to the letter, it's hard to imagine anyone else inhabiting the character of a good person-turned-evil as well as she does in this film. Fanning imbues her character with a freshness that balances off nicely against Maleficient's demeanour. All in all, an imaginative take on the old classic.

Maleficent seems to have taken a leaf too many out of Frozen's book and doesn't always make very smart choices when it comes to maneuvering the plot effectively. Packed with lovely visuals and a predictable plot, this film is a one-woman show that could have been a little less brooding. It could have been brilliant but it chose to stick to its seat with its safety belt tightly binding it down. Its sad when a film fails to realise its own potential.Maleficent is almost magnificent.

Angelina Jolie is the new-age evil fairy, and she is simply stunning in Maleficent. The film is also a visual treat. The beautiful landscape, green forest, animated creatures make it a perfect fantasy film. All those who imagined this and brought it on to the big screen deserve a pat on their back. Go and watch the magnificent Maleficent on the big screen! It will transport you to another world and trust me you wouldn't want to come back.

A dark and twisted take on one of the most popular fairy tales of all time - Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is a fantasy tale that has Angelina Jolie play the lead role. It is a revenge drama and there are moments when it doesn't go beyond Maleficent's act of vengeance. The screenplay rambles on as we see repeated shots of Jolie sulking, pouting, scheming. Writing is extremely uneven and Stromberg who has two Oscars for art direction in Avatar and Alice in Wonderland, puts the emphasis on the visuals than creating a strong storyline.
