Brick Mansions Movie Review

The plot is insanely unimaginative. No time or thought is invested in establishing the characters or developing the story. As a result, you feel indifferent about the cops, villains, their henchmen, etc. With no buildup, back-story or logic, the whole battle of good guys v/s crime and corruption looks inconsequential. The film has a message at its core but the execution is way too simplistic with the actors acting as if they weren't paid. Action buffs can still watch it for the Parkour-infused chase sequences. All you Paul Walker fans, stick to Fast & Furious instead.

Brick Mansions features some pretty engaging action, even though it may seem like part of it was directed by Rohit Shetty. The tragedy is that the film never slows down enough to let you enjoy the brilliance of David Belle’s liquid movements and never speeds up the story to keep you from yawning. Not quite at the level of the The Fast and the Furious franchise, Brick Mansions is somewhat laughable and entirely incomprehensible except for the action sequences.

Paul Walker wouldn’t want this to be remembered as his last film. Well, he can rest in peace. The one thing you can say about Brick Mansions is that it will be quickly forgotten. The second thing one can say is that Walker is the best thing about it.

Based on a French film "District B13", Brick Mansions takes the whole story and shifts it to near-future Detroit. This is an action movie with loads of stunts, explosions, fights and parkour. You can even think of it as Paul Walker‘s final finished work. Don’t think too much, the movie is all about taking your brain and leaving it at home. At the end of the day, you will see fists flying and people falling. Not Luc Besson‘s finest work, but it is passable, considering the other options. So sit back, and enjoy a remake. Then watch the original and see how it compares.
