Hummingbird Movie Review

Ratings:3.5/5  Review By:  Gavin Rasquinha Site:Times Of India
glance at the film poster might suggest that Jason Statham (playing Joey Jones) with his thousand-yard stare has just done what he usually does in movies - busting skulls and breaking bones from beginning to end. Not so here. Hummingbird has him on the biggest tangent of his career. A bum on the mean streets of back-alley London, fate (or God, as he puts it) lands him in the vacant house of someone really loaded. Jones realises that this is his chance at getting his life together again. He decides to assume the identity of the apartment's owner. What he doesn't realise is that slipping into a second skin can only go that far. Note: You may not like this film if you don't fancy dark thrillers containing violence.

Despite being ambitious, Redemption has too many themes and sub-plots to live up to what it intended to do. Statham’s traumatic stress issues, his thirst for violence, his relationship with the nun. The character has too many unjustified grey shades. To add to that, the many sub-plots prohibited the film from being as profound as the story and character required it to be.Redemption is by all means a good film, but may be too complicated for its own good. While on one hand it makes a surreal point about tortured souls, on the other it lacks the depth to justify it.
