Staying Alive  Movie Review

Some of you may have, but most others take for granted the little joys hidden in the faces of family and friends. Writer/director Ananth Mahadevan (remember Shah Rukh Khan's timid father in Baazigar?) brings to the table a poignant tale in Staying Alive, that seeks answers to these questions. The uncomfortable questions are only momentary. The pace of Staying Alive is conducive to send anyone into deep slumber.Skip this sappy drama. It's not the best way to spend your weekend.

STAYING ALIVE is one such film that brings you to the reality of what life really is. Director Anant Mahadevan does not hammer home his point, but very subtly, using mild humour as a backdrop, manages to impress with what he wants to express. This film is based on a true story, that of celebrated Bollywood writer Sujit Sen's experience in a hospital. Sen had suffered a third heart attack and was admitted to a hospital. Next to him was a gangster who had suffered his first. The movie is about how both look at life, from next to death; the bonding of both the wives in the hospital corridor, and the sacrifices they make to keep their marriage alive.

Though Staying Alive conveys a message, it isn’t preachy in its approach. A message of living life to the fullest in the right way is dealt with much ease. With the correct doze of sarcasm, along with sorrowful moments SA is a delightful watch. There is a flipside too, the film looks monotonous at times, which makes the screenplay a bit stretched.Intriguing narration, impactful dialogues, brilliant performances and soothing music are the strong points. Screenplay, editing and cinematography spoil the mood of the film.If you have an appetite for a meaningful film, Staying Alive is a must watch. Also, in the dearth of good movies around, Staying Ali can be given a shot.
