Happy Feet Two Movie Review

For what’s essentially a kiddie film, there’s way too much sermonizing here; and if the earlier film didn’t drill home the point that there’s no shame in being different, then this one beats you on the head with it! Happy Feet Two has some beautiful scenery and at least two elaborate musical numbers, but what’s missing is the light directorial touch that was needed here. The film feels calculated and manipulative on occasion, which comes in the way of your embracing it wholeheartedly.I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five for Happy Feet Two; it’s enjoyable in the same way that vanilla ice-cream is: safe and familiar.

The penguins are in plenty, fights with killer seals and predator birds are still a norm, the Arctic ice still continues to melt. And like its Oscar nominated 2006 prequel, Happy Feet Two has enough food for thought too --- a whole lot of screen time on values, the importance of family, the urge to never give up on hope and tips on self-confidence.We are not complaining. For the excellent music and dancing leaves you in a tap dance mode yourself. Also, the 3D's definitely smarter, brighter and trendier. Special mention: catch the Antarctic iceberg attack in super trans effect.

Mostly, Happy Two Feet makes use of stale jokes and commits the greatest mistake of actually believing that this could amuse you. To the director's surprise, it does but only in parts.director George Miller slaps one gimmick after another, introducing more characters than the story can contain and that's precisely where things go wrong. Attempts at slipping in the message of global warming and climate change appear half-hearted and eventually have no effect. For most of its running time, Happy Two Feet tries too hard to fit into its self-created 'cute' quotient.

The penguins are as adorable as ever in 'Happy Feet Two'. Yet a couple of shrimp-like krill at the bottom of the food chain almost steal the show in this animated sequel that sticks to the formula of the original while adding enough variety to give it a life of its own.You have to applaud a group of filmmakers that can take millions of disparate creatures, plus songs as different as Queen and David Bowie's 'Under Pressure' and the theme from 'Rawhide' and unite them in a rousing, harmonic climax where for one brief Hollywood moment, predators and prey have a common cause.'Happy Feet Two', a Warner Bros. release, is rated PG for some rude humor and mild peril. Running time: 99 minutes.
