Drive Movie Review

Ratings:3.5/5 Reviewer:Rajeev Masand Site:IBNLive
This highly stylized, meditative piece from Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn is an arthouse-meets-action movie that appeals both to the head and the heart. Drenched in a kitschy neon glow, and accompanied by a soundtrack reminiscent of the electronic pulse of 80s pop, Drive has the look and feel of classic noir.Drive takes a simple story and s**es it up with funky treatment. The scenes move leisurely in the film’s early portions with minimal dialogue, but as the plot kicks in closer to the halfway mark, the stage is set for some brutal, visceral action.I’m going with three-and-a-half out of five for Drive. It’s a flashy firecracker of a film that’s held up by a smoldering central performance. Don’t miss it!

He has no past. No present. No future. All we know about him is his dedication towards his job. Meet Driver -- sans a name, sans a life and sans any emotion -- who is the perfect man behind the wheel. Watch out for Driver melt during his moments of love for Irene... and when playing father figure to Benecio. That's exactly when you realise the man of unpredictable moods and moments... of barely few words... of unblinking gaze, is actually running from ghosts of the past and chasing dreams of a better road ahead. Worth getting behind the wheel this weekend, both for the drives and for the driver. Don't miss this action-bender which got a standing ovation at Cannes.

Drive moves as lovingly over Gosling’s hands on the steering wheel and the light playing across his face as it lingers on the extreme, brutal and sudden bursts of violence he is revealed to be capable of.In a film that belongs to Gosling alone, despite the very excellent Mulligan and Brooks, the rest of a strong support cast and some great music, we can’t look away from even the scorpion at the back of his grimy jacket.
