Blessed with an old-fashioned charm that you don't find in most modern blockbusters, 'Captain America: The First Avenger' is a simple, straightforward superhero film that places greater emphasis on story and characters over special effects and set-pieces.An enjoyable evening out if you're happy to embrace nostalgia, 'Captain America: The First Avenger' is good ol' fashioned fun; I'm going with three out of five.

He's almost like Iron Man, this new Marvel comic's hero, Captain America Captain America The First Avenger successfully uses World War II as a dramatic backdrop to its super hero story, thereby lending gravitas to comic book antics. But thankfully, it never loses the characteristic effervescence and breezy style of comic book narration, focusing more on weird bad guys with wild machines, dreaming of world decimation and domination, even as larger-than-life good guys close in on their heels. The special effects are of high quality, though as usual the 3-D effects are unnecessary and totally distracting. America sure knows how to script the best super hero story. So what if it can't hold on to its super power status any longer. Have fun with America's fictional folk lore.

Captain America is merely that, sufficient and unambitious and adequate in terms of a checklist: a Marvel-by-numbers film that doesn't even try to surprise its viewer. Slavishly true to the classic comic stories, it will please fanboys dissecting morsels of loyalty, as well as audiences who want their heroes old-school.This filmhas no clue what kind of film it wants to be, whether it's Indiana Jones or Star Wars The cynical but true answer, as said above, is an advertisement. It was always going to be hard, obviously. It's impossibly difficult to make a great film about a superhero who uses a country's name as his own.

What’s Good: The performances; the well-executed action sequences; Steve Rogers’ characterization. What’s Bad: The loopholes in the script; the lack of confrontations between the hero and the villain. Watch Captain America: The Last Avenger if you are a fan of Marvel comic heroes.

What makes Captain America: The First Avenger interesting is that it is simultaneously a war movie and a superhero movie, which executes all the trappings of both very well. The action-packed sequences and its superb special effects feature an old-fashioned feel that grants the story a strange sense of historical importance. Overall, Captain America: The First Avenger is the best superhero movie of this summer. Don't miss it to watch it.
