Reynolds is charming as the green-outfitted superhero, and does well in the film’s cheeky-comedy sequences. But Parallax is such an abstract villain that there’s never any sense of real danger in the film. For me, Green Lantern failed because of its over-dependence on CGI and special effects; there were times I felt I was watching a jazzy video game. The story is simplistic, there’s barely any character depth to speak of, and the acting is mostly hammy. Coming so close on the heels of the superb X-Men: First Class, you can’t help feeling underwhelmed and a tad cheated too.I’m going with one-and-a-half out of five for Green Lantern. It’s bright and shiny, but its battery runs out too soon.

Scripted by no fewer than four writers, the son-et-lumiere spectacle is marred by crummy CGI, eardrum-shattering sound effects and plenty of psychobabble. Inevitably, niceties such as in-depth characterisations take a back seat.Like many recent mega-budget extravaganzas, The Green Lantern is filmed in 3D. But the extra dimension adds nothing to the viewing experience. Rather, it’s just another instance to stick to traditional 2D.

The film was fashioned on a poorly written script that is terribly cliched in construction. The set-up is as cheesy and unexciting as can be with Hal being troubled by his father's death and therefore being motivated to enjoy the full benefits of the Lantern powers. The motivation appears quite shaky and coupled with the uneven run of special effects, action set-pieces and editing that fails to generate the requisite excitement or energy, the narrative appears unimaginative, failing in effect to bring out the full potential of this superhero story!

  1. For God's sake my dear critics, please stop taking sides with American critics to critically bash the movie because you have nothing better to do . Green Lantern doesn't pretend to be Citizen Kane, OK??? It is a go and enjoy kind of summer movie. Have you lost that little kid inside you who used to fly in the world of imagination with a red towel tied at the shoulders and think about fighting larger-than-life enemies? Have you lost that kid inside you who used to spend hours being amazed at the sheer imaginary expanse of comic books? Or do you always want another Dark Knight in every comic book movie that's supposed to come out. This is the problem of growing up too much- you lose the innocence . I l Absolutely LOVED being a kid again. I had no hopes from this movie, but Ryan Reynolds made me beleive a man can fly in his imagination , again, and a man can conquer fear with courage, in a way that Liam Neeson in Batman Begins could never do! But of coursely you would call the likes of us-uneducated insane idiots wouldn't you? Have a great "CRITICAL" life!
