The film is racy and unfolds at breakneck speed, as Langdon tries to keep pace with the anonymous assassin who seems to be working for a secret sect of disgruntled scientists, called the Illuminati. They want to avenge the excesses of the church against scientists in this timeless war of religion and science. Add to this the multi-layered intrigue and treachery and Angels and Demons becomes one of the most engrossing masala films from current Hollywood. We bet you'll forget your popcorns too!

Angels & Demons is a better film than The Da Vinci Code of which it is a follow-up. But let's face it, that's hardly a great achievement!.Angels & Demons doesn't make a lot of sense – guns go off in the church, priests fly helicopters, and secret pathways leading in and out of the Vatican can be found at every corner – but it's these hokiest bits in the film that are in the end the most fun. Alas, there isn't enough of it!I'm going with two out of five and at best an average rating for director Ron Howard's Angels & Demons, adapted from the book by Dan Brown. Go in without any expectations and perhaps you'll be engaged.

Unlike the previous movie that moved as quickly as a snail on vacation, Angels & Demons wastes little time getting from Plot Point A to Plot Point B, and onwards. Effective edits and sharp changes of pace and location are employed to ensure that the audience's eyes remain glued to the screen throughout the nearly one hundred and forty minutes running time.Setups are efficiently established, puzzles are revealed, chased, solved and new puzzles delivered. Obscure anecdotal history is delivered in pithy dialogue and very little time is wasted setting up the universe for those audience members who aren't already in the know.Minor quibbles aside, Angels & Demons is a satisfying serving of popcorn cinema. What more can one ask for in these final sweltering days (we hope) of summer?

Despite its predictability however Angels & Demons manages to hold your attention – primarily because of its breakneck speed. The 'genius and mystery of Christianity' does unfold before your eyes in some of the most breathtaking indoor shots.Had it not been for the extremely fast pace of the movie, Angels & Demons would have ended up being a big bore. Thankfully, despite the less than satisfactory adaptation of the novel by the same name, the screenwriter packs a lot of action within a span of 138 minutes. If you are one of those who purely want to see how this action unfolds, go for this film. Else you can well wait for it on DVD.

After Khuda Ke Liye and Salakhen, India gets its third Pakistani film release. Unlike Khuda Ke Liye, this one is a more mainstream film and gives you an idea of what big budget Pakistani cinema is all about. Yup! A poor clone of Bollywood, where both the choreography and the action sequences leave much to be desired. Watch it out of sheer curiosity.

If Hollywood needs to get out of Holocaust cinema, then Indians need to get out of Partition dramas. There are no more stories left to tell about history's tumultuous times, unless you can add a new spin to it. So what's really the point of Partition, specially since it basically retells Gadar, minus the grandeur and the growl of Sunny Deol.

The wife cooks breakfast. The husband gobbles it and goes to bring in more bread and butter on the breakfast table. Happy family, did you say? But wait, watch out for what wifey dearest does when the husband's making his millions. It's a film where nobody acts. Everybody hams. And everything goes haywire, including the moth-balled dialogues about sati and pati.

Ratings1/5 Reviewer:Rajeev Masand Site:IBNLive
The inherent problem with Detective Naani is the filmmaker's tendency to "cute-fy" the characters and their behavior. Everyone from the precocious kids to the horny teenagers to the ageing grandma seems to have been doused in a vat of sugar syrup so as to come off as extra-sweet and lovable. It doesn't work. More silly than it's funny, I'll go with one out of five for director Romila Mukherjee's Detective Naani. Just surviving it is something of an accomplishment!

DETECTIVE NAANI is tedious and interesting, both. Tedious, because what could've been narrated in 1.30 hours is narrated in 2.15 hours. Interesting, because the mystery element and how it eventually gets solved keeps your eyes wide open. Sure, you might call the goings-on childish, but, hey, don't forget the golden mantra. On the whole, DETECTIVE NAANI is too ordinary a fare to stand on its feet. At best, it might appeal to a small section of moviegoers [kids]. That's about it!

Not bad at all, this sweet little adventure about an adorable grandmother who lives in an upmarket society with her two grand children.it's left to our desi Miss Marple to solve the mystery of the disappearing tribal girls and she does it some aplomb. This one's nice summer fare for the family, specially the restive kids out there.

Unfortunately these are the very reasons why the movie ends up being such a hotchpotch. It stretches for as long as 135-odd minutes and manages to give out some rather confusing signals.Indeed, the movie seems to base itself on some vague idea of bravado. The never-ending screenplay, below average direction and some rather sloppy performances don't make this movie remotely interesting.
There are films that you can discount for having their heart in the right place. You cannot say the same in the case of Detective Naani. Kids, if you ever decide to watch this movie don't try any of it at home.

Preity Zinta has already essayed the role of an unwed mother with great aplomb almost nine years ago in Kya Kehna. So was there really a need to revisit the role by Tara Sharma? There could have been, if the film maker had actually chosen to take the issue forward and talk about single motherhood as the new social norm. But there is a relentless search for the unborn kid's Appa through most of the film, with Tara wondering who will give her baby chocolates and toys. Only Appa's do that, huh?.So where's the problem? A repetitive script, a lazy pace and some laidback performances....Suno Na is neither offbeat nor mainstream.

SUNO NA plays on your nerves. It's boring to the point of driving you nuts. Although the pretext picked is fine, its implementation leaves you wondering what director Amy Thanawala is upto. The acting is hilarious. I mean there's this one pregnant girl whose boyfriend ditches her. Her parents disown her and she is left to fend for herself. She decides to kill herself, when the child in the womb begins talking to her. At first, this chatter is intriguing, but then it becomes the very bane of this movie.

Amy Thanawala's directorial debut, Suno Na - Ek Nanhi Aawaz had the potential to be a cute film about an unwed mother's foetus talking to her. But it turns out to be more irritating than cute. So disrupting was the 'talking foetus' to the story's flow, that one of the critics present at the venue shouted, 'Kill the d*** thing!' That should already tell you how bad the film is. But we'll still talk about it, considering it's a first-time effort.

99 actually takes off in the second hour. From the time the lights are dimmed [post interval] to the time the lights are lit again [conclusion of the film], 99 keeps you engrossed in most parts. The only problem is, it's too slow-paced at times and lengthy too, towards the penultimate moments. Just when you thought that the film has ended, another chase follows, which eventually leads to the finale. On the whole, 99 appeals in parts, more towards the second half. The film holds appeal for the youth and should find patronage from this faction of moviegoers at multiplexes mainly. 99 is smart, good looking and interesting, in parts. Quite a ride this, if you don't go with much expectations!

Set in that inglorious year, 1999, when Indian cricketers were supposedly selling off their matches against South Africa on the behest of the notorious bookies, this comedy of errors refreshingly picks up after a sluggish start. More importantly, it views the underbelly of Indian crime and cricket with a tangy, tongue-in-cheek tenor that ensures you never really lose the plot, even though the narrative unfolds in a somewhat disjointed manner. This crime-and-comic caper not only flits between the present and the past, it also switches between cities: Kabhi Mumbai, kabhi Dilli. But always with the unpredictable, threatening to explode round the corner.

99 is not a bad film, but it is not a good film either. Like 13B before it (different genres, similar problems), this movie delivers on its promise in the climax. This movie suffers from many signs of 'first film' syndrome even though it isn't the duo's directorial debut.Entire scenes bear no relationship to the overall story and while it is clear that the running time is padded, it is unclear why.All told, 99 rates a solid B+ for effort and a C for actual delivery -- or in our star-studded vernacular, two-and-a-half of those five pointed little fellas. But really, if you're in the mood this weekend, what else are you going to watch at your neighbourhood multiplex?

99 is set in the year 1999 when communication was going satellite swift in India with both cell phone and internet gaining popularity. Incidentally the film is about connections and cross-connections.99 falls in the same genre of Guy Ritchie’s cult crime-comedy caper Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels with a lot of money manipulation and currency rotation. Thankfully the treatment is not slapstick like its earlier Indian edition Phir Hera Pheri , with sensible writing, credible characters and smart direction.99 makes way for 100% entertainment.

Cricket and betting were two of the major themes in last year's surprise hit Jannat. This year as the IPL fever hots up yet again, you have 99, a film that tells an engaging tale about match fixing, mobile phones and betting.99 is a classic example of a comic thriller. It takes situations that have actually happened and weaves a fictional story around it.Even though it could have been far shorter, 99 comes as a breath of fresh air. Lay your bets on it folks.

"99" is not the film you'd have liked to see after such a long period of deprivation.Where you'd want a big burp-inducing pickled and pappadomed thali, "99" serves up a tangy appertif that you can nibble with pleasure but not quite sink your teeth into.We are the way we are, and what could be done about it? That's the underlining text of this tangy, flavourful often funny but not fully developed plot.
As a famine-breaker it serves its purpose. We are made conscious of how far Indian cinema has come from the time when crime never paid.

99 has its intentions in the right place, it is funny in parts, is well cast and has some quirky dialogues. Yet the film drags, with sequences that seem repetitive after a point, and leaves you unmoved. At best, 99, if it has to be said so, manages to hit a half-century. 99 is one of those films that has all the ingredients to make a mark in a big way, but still has something missing. In these film-starved times, it could be just the shot of Hindi-film entertainment you have craved for in the last 6 weeks. But television is where this film could really make a mark. Watch with no expectations, and you might not be disappointed.

Thus, with brilliant performances, and the filmmaker's special touch, the movie though not flawless, manages to shine through as a good depiction of existential relationships. Also the drama transcends the barrier of language even without the perfect subtitles. The subtitles fail to do total justice to the songs… which are best understood in Bengali!.If you crave to watch emotional dramas, go for this one. Chances are you wouldn't have seen such a well made film in a long time!

It's an unusual love story too, between Rahul Bose, a punctilious police officer who quotes Jim Morrison while capturing criminals and Radhika Apte, a bright-eyed young journalist who is making waves with her investigations on a Nandigram kind of case. During the day, the twosome keeps busy, but late at night, they become cyber buddies, chatting through e-mail into the wee hours of the morning. The pressure of love, career, urban loneliness all build up to a stunning climax which leaves you riveted till the end. A moody, languorous and extremely artistic look at life in a metro.

Danny Denzongpa delivers a moving performance as the debt-stricken Karma but he's betrayed by a screenplay that's too loose, and one that relies heavily on such self-indulgent tools as long silences. Director Shivajee Chandrabhushan has a relevant story to tell, but evidently, he has little interest in delivering it in a form that is accessible to most viewers. For the most part, Frozen leaves you cold, and chances are you'll need time to defrost. Two out of five for Frozen. Remember: go armed with lots of patience and a comfortable pillow.

This one's a glorious return to the age of black and white cinema. And surprisingly, you just don't seem to miss the myriad hues of eastmancolour. On the contrary, the film simply overwhelms you with its visual opulence as the screen lights up with one glistening frame after the other, capturing the ethereal beauty of the ice-capped Himalayan landscape on one hand and the irony of bullets, blasts and barbed wires on the other. The film's a tryst with pure cinema, in terms of its scintillating cinematography and lays down a strong plea for peace and harmony. Go for a different experience.

In Frozen, the first film opening nationwide in what seems like ages (but is really more like five or six weeks) we are witness to the life of Karma (Danny Denzongpa) and the trials and tribulations that visit those like him who live high up in the winter wonderland that is Leh, Ladakh.Though the director and his team deserve the highest accolades for achieving a film of this level of beauty in severely extreme conditions, it is unlikely that this film will find a mass audience. Connoisseurs of high art however will probably find much to appreciate in this sparse and beautiful black and white world.

Sometimes simple stories need simple storytelling techniques. Frozen, starring Danny Denzongpa, is the case in point. Shot in Ladakh in black and white the film tells the story of an aging father Karma (Danny) is working hard to clear his debts.Much has been said and written about Ladakh's landscape. Its starkness hits you even harder when you se it in monochrome. But there are times when the spectacle tends to take you away from the story. And that is what Frozen is – a spectacle that needn't necessarily have been one.

Unfortunately, as much as he captivates with his brilliant cinematography, Shanker Raman who also writes the film, fails to grip you with his disjointed screenplay. It’s not with the slow pacing or the conventional conflicts of the poor protagonist where he loses the audiences. The ambiguous culmination does more harm.None of the secondary characters contribute towards the climax making the film appear like a docu-drama about the hardships of a local from Ladakh. The repetitive facades of misty mountains and curvy roads add to the documentary feel.

The music of 99 isn't as zany as one would have expected but still a couple of songs do strike a chord. With the music release barely a week before the film's arrival in theatres not helping it's cause, 99 would be looking at audience response to 'What's Up' and 'Soch Mat Dobara' to make some impression at the stands.

The music exudes melody and gives a heads up to the film. The songs of "99" sure exceeds everyone's expectations. On the whole, the album is a robust mix of different styles and doesn't disappoint the listener. With four composers behind the soundtrack, a little more experimentation would have made the album stand out more.

Yet to be released ‘99’ would be perhaps remembered as a film which got 100 % caught in the multiplex towing. However, the music of the film is already out and has multiple composers like Ashu, Roshan Machado, Mahesh Shankar and Shamir Tandon at its helm. Ironically, not all songs click and the album ends up being an unhealthy mix of good - and some disappointing tracks.
