The fact that this film is offensive and icky is only one part of the problem. The other part is, it's never funny. The premise itself reminds you of a sitcom, and the jokes are mostly flat. The once adorable Meg Ryan delivers a painfully over-the-top performance in this film, and the entire climax is so harebrained you cannot imagine someone got paid to write this trash. My Mom's New Boyfriend is possibly the most un-funny comedy I've seen in years, and I suggest you don't make the mistake of going to watch this film only because there's nothing else at the cinemas this weekend. Zero out of five and two thumbs down for this film that I hope I'm never reminded of it again!

Here's what a strike can do to your film schedule. It can have you end up in an audi, seeing a film that wasn't even considered good enough to be released on the regular circuit in the US. Blame it on the eternal charm of Meg Ryan, who still retains the mesmeric twinkle in her eyes, despite her heavy cosmetic surgery. Or else on the debonair machismo of beefcake Banderas who is watchable, even if he bumbles. But the truth is you actually don't get bored in this mindless caper which has a son spying on his mom on the behest of the government. Come on, it's brain dead, we know. But so are most Hindi film comedies, which we so passionately love.

My Mom’s new boyfriend is a light humoured passable film which works mostly for the chemistry between Hanks and Ryan. The awkwardness, confusion, attachment, differences, that a mother-son share are perfectly rendered by the duo. Hanks is likeable while Meg Ryan’s botoxed face too exudes cute emotions and evokes laughter. There is nothing in this film that you’d take home, nor will it evoke a hearty laugh in regular intervals. It’s just a film that will ensure you won’t yawn and are hooked on to till you are watching it...which is not so bad afterall.

Unfortunately you can't say the same about her latest film My Mom's New Boyfriend. The film tells the story about an obese overweight nervous wreck Martha (Meg Ryan) who decides to reinvent herself as her FBI agent son Henry (Colin Hanks) goes on an assignment. The parts where Henry is trying to come to terms with his mother's newfound libido are quite amusing. As a matter of fact My Mom's New Boyfriend could well be a safe first date movie – you have a laugh, share popcorn and drop her home after the show (if that's what they still do on first dates). But honestly there is little else to it.

Monsters vs Aliens doesn't have the innocent charm of Wall-E. Yet, it's fairly engaging because of its oddball characters and their interactions with each other.Watching the film in 3D with colorful stuff darting towards you, and characters zooming and zipping all around is really the best way to enjoy this movie. It's unlikely you'll remember it long after you've left the cinema, but while you're in there in your seat, chances are you won't be bored.Three out of five for the new animation film Monsters vs Aliens; it's one for kids and adults alike

First things first. Watch this film only in an auditorium that allows you to enjoy the 3-D animation effect. Truly, the highlight of Dreamwork's new animation film is its stylised 3-D effect which creates a spectacle of the moving image. It catapults you right into the vortex of the action and almost makes you a participant as you duck, lunge back and jump start each time the brightly animated screen reaches out to pull, pummel or petrify.Story-wise, the film is classic comic book fare with a bunch of oddball characters out to save the world, using their oddity as their weapon.

Here's a dazzler --- Monsters vs. Aliens --- which spells visually inventive entertainment, especially for the kiddies-at-heart viewers. Inevitably, the plot is unimportant. It's the animation with its beautifully rendered backdrops that draws us into the lives of the imaginative characters.A top-of-the-line animated fix is guaranteed.

You cannot help but admire the vision of the animators as they make the city of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge come alive. It is one of the most realistic scenes that makes you feel part of the action, cheering for the good guys (in this case the motley crew of monsters!).Monsters Vs Aliens is a movie that sends those hot summer days far away and makes you relive your childhood memories all over again.

When you buy a ticket of DASHAVTAR [dubbed Hindi version], you also wish you would've taken the writer of this film along, who knows the film inside out, because it's very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very [10 times!] difficult to decipher what's going on, what this marrrrrrrrrrathon film actually wants to convey. Of the 10 roles, Kamal Haasan appeals only as the ex CIA agent. However, the makeup looks fake for a few characters. Asin is terrible. She irritates after a point. Mallika Sherawat suits her role. She's good. Jaya Pradha is wasted. What did she see in this role? On the whole, DASHAVTAR is a poor show all the way. Hugely disappointing!

Kamal Haasan re-releases his Tamil film, this time in Hindi. Ironically, some times experiments aren't always successful. It's an international plot about apocalypse, spanning the cycle of Karma and Continents. Yet, despite the feel of kitsch, the film does manage to work as a racy thriller.Watch the film for its ostentatious canvas and for Kamal Haasan's daring, Although, his sundry avtars only remind you of his earlier disguises which clicked: Hindustani and Chachi 420.

Arguably the most innovative actor of his generation, one gets a feeling that since Kamal couldn't make 10 different films, he chose to pack it all in one. One guesses he has no intentions of taking a backseat in his future films too. Perhaps no one is good enough to translate his eccentric vision into reality – maybe not even Kamal himself.Despite its applause worthy scale of production, Dashavtar is an exhaustive watch. What promises to be Kamal's power of 10 is eventually a 10-pronged torture on the senses.

The story is as far-fetched as the characters and the ultimate climax is the understanding of how the Tsunami of 2004 came about. At least that is what the makers are driving at. There are also two parallel stories running across, one of Kamal Haasan the sting operator (a fearless TV reporter) and another of Kamal Haasan the kung fu expert from Japan who is out to avenge his student's death. Add eight more Kamal Haasan's, and you get the drift of the title of the film!.Ram Gopal Varma buried himself in his self-glorification called, 'RGV Ki Aag'. He has found a serious contender in Kamal Haasan.

The film may be low on high drama but the director manages to create a mesmerising mood and draws you into the play of emotions that unfolds with a lazy charm. Almost in keeping with the pulse of Darjeeling, captured beautifully on screen by cinematographer Indraneel Mukherjee. While almost everyone pitches in a smart cameo, it is Victor Banerjee's lonely, aging escapist act that remains with you, with the resonance of the songs and the poetry that he so generously spouts through his philosophical ramblings, with garlic bread and whisky.

It’s an interesting plot, acted out with sincerity and competence for the most part. And director Anjan Dutt, with the able help of Indraneel Mukherjee’s cinematography, makes Darjeeling come alive — not in a sugary romanticised manner, but with much affection, dwelling on its crowded streets as much as its picturesque lanes and sweeping vistas. But the movie fails to grip or even make its impact gently as the four stories become little more than vignettes while the script meanders much like Darjeeling’s pathways. And yes, its verbosity certainly doesn’t help.

After mindless comic capers that left the audience wanting for a serious cinematic experience, ‘Chowrasta Crossroads of Love’ comes at the right time. Although, the film is low on entertainment value, the film may turn out to be a surprise hit, considering the multiplex strike. The film doesn’t boast of a glamorous star cast or lovely foreign locales or heart-touching music, yet the film appeals due to histrionics of the actors. With just 90 minutes running time, this short flick keeps the interest of the audience alive.

The film is a little lethargically paced, unfolding the events taking its own sweet time but then actually it works because of the scenic setting of the Darjeeling hills. Cinematographer Indraneel Mukherjee has done a splendid job in capturing the beauty of the famous North Eastern hill station. The background music deserves special mention as well. The film makes for a good watch if you want to see something really sensible in these days of mindless entertainers or high pitched melodramas. With its just 90 minutes running time, you won’t end up losing much.

Some people are completely clueless about screen writing. There has to be a start, a middle and an end in every film. MERI PADOSAN has a start, but the middle and the end are so amateurish that you wonder how films like this are envisioned in the first place.Forget laughing, one doesn't even smile in most parts of this film. The jokes are non-appealing and at times, crass. The culmination to the tale is equally confusing. Music is dull.On the whole, this padosan is just not welcome!

It has a tall fair guy with buffed muscles playing at being a director. He lives with a couple of equally feckless fellows who do nothing other than bellow at each other, when they are not lusting after the buxom bhabhi-ji type who lives across from them. And they also find their own jokes very funny. The few people present in the theatre I saw the film in stayed strictly unamused.

Let us get it straight, this film is a C grader aimed at titillating the audience of the smaller centers so one is not expecting any sensible stuff in here. But the makers seem to have taken even their loyal audience in such centers for granted by providing utter rubbish in the name of cinema. Tasteless double intended jokes, pathetic script, non existent direction and bad acting, you name it and you get it all in plenty. Don’t even think of watching this movie unless you intend to get yourself a paid torture.

Some more canned stuff, anyone? Although, this film does boast of an interesting cast. There's Ajay Jadeja singing songs with Dev D's Paro, Mahie Gill. And we thought, Dev D was Mahie's first Hindi film. Actually, it's understandable why Mahie would like to brush this outing under the carpet. As Dolly, the pretty little girlfriend of rich boy, Ajay Jadeja, she doesn't have much to do other than look pretty.

One is not sure how much sympathy one should expend on Ajay Jadeja, whose second film promises to be almost as disastrous as the allegations of match-fixing that clouded his cricketing career many years ago.Jadeja has a spectacularly ordinary screen presence, Mahi Gill simpers sickeningly, Sushma Seth screeches constantly, Satish Shah hams horrendously and you don’t want to know about the other characters. Except Vinod Kambli, who actually turns in the most controlled performance. Yes, that’s how awful it is.

It was even a big task convincing the multiplex staff to play the show of one of this film as they were canceling it for lack of audience So saw this film with just two more people. They were actually a couple seeking some solace in a crowd free environment enjoying the cool comforts of air-conditions. Wow how confident they were about the number of people that may come to see this trash. We request the censor board not to pass such films which star cricketers as heroes and save our time and money.

Can't really get worse than this, can it? Blame it on recession. Blame it on the producers versus multiplex strike. But this is what happens when old, moth-balled cans are opened. These are essentially old films which found no takers and gathered cobwebs in the warehouses of tinsel town. Their makers hope to find a few takers in this season of drought, irrespective of the quality of the films. Alas! This could just be the beginning of the bad run which could linger till the elections and the IPL are over. Ready for Bollywood's can of worms?

What with the two-timing Bossy; Rajpal Yadav and Virendra Saxena in a ‘let’s-see-who-can-be-more-manic’ contest; actresses who look tacky compared to the extras in a Karan Johar film; and the climax on a theatre stage, complete with an Anarkali dancing through the mayhem (don’t even say Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro), this is a movie that sends you home somewhat worried — about your own well-being and that of Hindi cinema. But then, both have survived worse. Next, please.

Coffee House is a small, unostentatious, yet meaningful film about dreaming big, seeking change and making a difference. Naturally, in today's high-voltage electioneering, the film comes as a topical reminder of the power of the common man. Ostensibly inspired by the life and times of noted theatre activist, Safdar Hashmi who died a brutal death in the 1990s, the film focuses on the valiant attempts of Ashutosh Rana and his street theatre group to change the system and make it more accountable, inclusive and humane. The film scores mostly in its performances by actors who may not be big stars but are big in talent. Don't go looking for regular naach-gana and gloss and you will find substance and a soul.

Now add Coffee House to the list.We have some questions for the filmmakers: Did you really feel that you would be able to find an audience for a movie like this, which not only has a dry subject but a boring narrative too? And what is the relevance of a title like Coffee House?.This is hardly a coffee worth sipping even in your house. Just ignore it completely, it isn't worth your time.

Corruption. Communalism. Aged parents ill-treated by their children. The commercial compulsions of a consumerist society. Romanticised idealism vs a pragmatic selling out.All fodder for Coffee House, which rather ambitiously takes on multiple crusades and offers quick-fix solutions for all of them.Well-intentioned this storyline may be, but a befuddled script, cardboard characters, jerky editing, and some godawful acting make this film too boring to even hate.

Some more supra-normal stuff after 13B and Aa Dekhen Zara? Why not, provided it gives you the believe-it-or-not feel and carries you beyond the realms of conventional imagination. So, does Nagesh Kukunoor's dalliance with sci-fi meet this criterion? Not really. For though the film is based on an unusual premise and focuses on a new hero-type, the plot simply plods along, with undue repetition and the sci-fi biz is just a ploy to peddle a regular whodunit. Also, the search for the murderer ends up in a conclusion that is riddled with loopholes. Too many, to be brushed aside as creative licence.

Nagesh Kukunoor enters a new zone with 8 x 10 TASVEER: Suspense-thriller. His choice of the genre and subject material is also right. On the whole, 8 x 10 TASVEER disappoints. The film goes wrong, in fact horribly wrong, in the penultimate 20-25 minutes, which is the lifeline of any suspense-thriller. Nagesh Kukunoor has missed the bus this time!

When you expect the film to open up as a supernatural thriller through Jai’s vision, Nagesh Kukunoor changes your viewpoint turning the film into a conventional who-dun-it murder mystery drama. Reportedly Nagesh Kukunoor appealed critics to not divulge the ending of the film in their reviews. The question is how many will actually sit till the end.The film neither works as a murder mystery nor as an X-File kinda supernatural thriller. Tasveer just doesn’t click with the viewer!

8x10 Tasveer suffers big-time on accounts of its pace. Race was also packed with forced twists - but it moved at such a brisk pace that the viewer had little time to think. This movie is painfully slow for all its 120 minutes. In fact even Jodhaa Akbar’s four hours felt shorter in comparison. 8x10 Tasveer is neither a gripping murder mystery nor a riveting supernatural thriller. In an attempt to blend the two genres, the makers serve up one hotchpotch of a film.

Hence two of out five for Fast & Furious. Here's a piece of advice – go watch the first one on DVD all over again, it's so much more fun.

Diesel power explodes once again, after having vroomed off into anonymity for the last eight years. The alluring speed devil, Dominic Torreto (Vin Diesel), who became a cult figure in the first Fast and Furious, turned his back to the two sequels that followed (2Fast 2Furious and Tokyo Drift) due to fee problems. The franchise lost its zing and Vin almost vanished from the screen. So, naturally, the two had to get together again and create grease lightnin' once more.

The talky parts could have been shorter in this movie and there are still points during the action sequences where you don't know who is in front and who is giving chase. That said, this is definitely a return to the form of the original and returning director Justin Lin (he also directed the third installment) has delivered a film that could nicely set up a fifth film if this one makes enough money. One thing is for certain though -- these movies are only really fun when Dominic and Brian do their thing together.
