Like HANUMAN, MARUTI MERA DOSST is about Lord Hanuman too. This one has two kids essaying central roles, merges animation and live, has loads of computer graphics, but, for a very valid reason, it just doesn't magnetise the kid or the kid in you. Is this really a kiddie film? That's one question that crosses your mind at several points of the narrative. No wonder, the censors have also passed it not with a 'U' certificate [which should've been the case had it been a kiddie film], but a 'U/A' certificate. On the whole, MARUTI MERA DOSST is targeted at the kids, but is not for kids. It lacks the purity, the innocence and the simplicity associated with kiddie films and the 'U/A' certificate will only keep a section of its target audience away.

Taalis for a desi kiddies flick that doesn't talk down and actually believes that stories can be told the Snow White and Cinderella way in native cinema too. With hardly any hype and a title that says nothing, this film sure does come as a surprise. First, because the kids actually act as kids. The boy Hanuman is quite adorable in his unkempt slacks and his passion for swinging on a tyre, when not saving the world. Take your kids. They'll have a good time with this good versus evil tale.

Maruti Mera Dosst comes across as a children's film and not a mytho that is preachy or boring. It also comes across as a project made with a lot of heart and effort. But then again, the film is extremely weak on 'star power' or 'glitz'. The Indian audience, however film starved for the past few months due to the producers-multiplex owners’ dispute would probably like to spend money on something with a little more glam quotient. Take your kids if they are not already watching the many Disney DVDs at home..
